About Thomas Teafatiller

Thomas Teafatiller, Principal Engineer – Protection, Engineering and System Performance

Mr. Teafatiller started working at ReliabilityFirst in 2018 and is currently responsible for the review and analysis of power system protection operations and Misoperations in the region, as well as MIDAS data collection and review.

He is a member of the NERC System Protection and Control Working Group and is the liaison for the RF Protection Subcommittee and the Misoperation Peer Review group.

Mr. Teafatiller started his career in 1993 at Franklin Electric as a Network and Controls Engineer.

In 2000, Mr. Teafatiller started working for WorldCom Inc. as a Light Wave Test and Turn-up Engineer, commissioning and testing SONET networks both in the US and Europe. He also worked in the International Test lab testing interoperability between exiting and new equipment slated to go on the network.

In 2004, Mr. Teafatiller started his career in the power industry at the City of Siloam Springs, a Municipal Electric Utility, as an Electrical Engineer, where he designed both underground and overhead electric infrastructure. Mr. Teafatiller’s experience at the Utility included the design and coordination of protection systems for distribution and sub-transmission and the development of system load flow studies.

In 2010, Mr. Teafatiller started working for the Southwest Power Pool. His responsibilities included the review and analysis of power system protection operations and Misoperations in the region, entity registration, Inherent Risk Assessments, Compliance Audit team lead and Compliance Assessments on system events.

Mr. Teafatiller is a graduate of University of Arkansas, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Systems Engineering and is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Arkansas in Electric Power.
