ReliabilityFirst celebrates 20 years of advancing grid reliability and security
ReliabilityFirst (RF) is celebrating its 20-year anniversary in 2026 and has released a commemorative video and interactive historical timeline, highlighting two decades of service to the reliability and security of the North American bulk power system.
Founded in 2006 following significant changes to the electric reliability landscape in North America, RF has spent the last 20 years working alongside industry, regulators, policymakers, and other stakeholders to identify emerging risks, share critical reliability insights, and support a more secure and resilient electric grid.
The anniversary video reflects our organization’s evolution from its early foundation to its role today as a trusted reliability partner focused on risk-informed oversight, proactive outreach to our key stakeholders, technical collaboration, and the continuous improvement of grid reliability and security. The accompanying timeline chronicles key milestones that have shaped RF’s history, including major industry developments, program innovations, reliability initiatives, and organizational achievements spanning two decades.
Throughout this period, our organization has adapted to emerging challenges facing the electric sector, including evolving cyber security threats, a shifting resource mix, extreme weather risks, increasing system complexity, supply chain challenges, and more. As RF looks toward the future, the organization remains focused on its mission of preserving and enhancing the reliability and security of the bulk power system.
