Agenda

Power grid disturbance case studies

Courtney Fasca, Senior Reliability Consultant, External Affairs, RF

Courtney Fasca will be presenting on two international case studies – Germany’s 2022/2023 energy crisis and Sri Lanka’s blackouts, including the most recent in February 2025. Courtney will recap what led to these events and discuss lessons learned: how to prevent this, how they are mitigating the problem, and how we can learn from this in the U.S.

Navigating the increasing penetration of IBRs: Challenges with modeling and BES stability

Parimal Saraf, Principal Engineer – Planning, Engineering & System Performance, RF

Parimal Saraf will discuss the challenges associated with the increasing share of inverter-based resources (IBRs) in the electric generation resource mix, focusing on both current and projected trends within the RF footprint. The presentation will explore key considerations in IBR modeling and study requirements, significance of system strength, and implications for Bulk Electric System (BES) stability.
